Surprisingly, it is the huge dogs that are calm, sweet and friendly. Their loyalty to their human family is knows no bound, and they are very good with young children.
1.Caucasian shepherd dog
The Caucasian shepherd dog is also called Caucasian mountain dog and Caucasian Ovcharka. It has a tan leather coat with any solid colors, piebald or spotted color but never has a black or silver color.
The male Caucasian shepherd dog weighs 50-100 kg (110-220 lbs.) with the height of 72-75 cm (28-30 in), and the female weighs 45-80 kg (100-180 lbs.), and has a height of 67-70 cm (26-28 in).
This breed is famous in Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Northern Caucasian area.
2.English mastiff
The English Mastiff is also called Mastiff and Old English Mastiff. They have a fine, smooth coat with colors of apricot-fawn, fawn, silver fawn, or dark fawn brindle. Their life span is between 7-12+ years.
The male mastiff weighs 68-113 kg (150-250 lbs.) and the height is 76 cm (30 in minimum). The female Mastiff weighs 54-82 kg (120-180 lbs.) and has a height of 70 cm (27.5 in minimum).
The Mastiffs are originally from England and they descended from the ancient Pugnaces Britanniae and Alaunt. The Mastiff is known for its gentle and loving
Nature despite always having a black mask, a massive body, and a square appearance.
3.Newfoundland
A Newfoundland is a huge working dog with webbed feet and a water-resistant coat. Their coat is thick and straight with colors black, white with black patches, brown, and gray. Their life span is 8-10 years and their litter size is 4-12 puppies.
The male Newfoundland weighs 65-80 kg (143-176 lbs.) with a height of 71 cm (8 in). The female weighs 55-65 kg (121-143 lbs.) and has a height of 66 cm (26 in).
This breed of huge dogs are known to be calm and docile in nature, they are very loyal and are known as the gentle giants.
4.Komondor
The Komondor is also known as the Hungarian sheepdog that has a natural guardian instinct for livestock and other properties. They are calm and steady in normal situations, but are not scared to fight to defend their charges and they can decide on their own. Komondors are loving with a family and quite gentle with the kids. They observe strangers but welcome them eventually.
The minimum weight of the male Komondor is 50-60 kg (110-132 lbs.) with a height of 70 cm (27.5 in). The females weigh 40-50 kg (88-110 lbs.) and height of 65 cm (25.5 in). Their body is covered with a heavy, matted, corded coat.
5.Scottish deerhound
The Scottish Deerhound is mostly known as just Deerhound. They are gentle and very friendly, they are docile and they have an eagerness to please with dignity.
The Deerhounds have a wiry coat with colors ranging from blue, brindle, fawn, gray, red to yellow. They can have 4-15 puppies and their life span is 8-9 years.
The make Deerhounds weighs 39-50 kg (85-110 lbs.) with a height of 30-32 inches. The female weighs 34-43 kg (75-95 lbs.) and has a height of 28 inches.
6.Neapolitan mastiff
The Neapolitan Mastiff is also called Mastino, they are an ancient dog breed. They are fearless and extremely protective of their human family. They don’t bark, and they sneak up on intruders without alerting them of the dog’s presence. They are highly intelligent and they can think on their own. Family is very important to them.
The Mastino’s have loose skin coat that colors of either black, mahogany, blue or tawny.
Male Neapolitan Mastiff weighs 30-70 kg (130-150 lbs.) and has a height of 26-31 inches, while females weigh 50-60 kg (110-130 lbs.) and a height of 61-79 cm (24-31 in).
7.Bernard
The St. Bernard dogs are very calm, affectionate, loyal, sweet and patient with adults and especially children. The dog’s coat can be smooth or rough and their coat color is usually a red shade with white, or mahogany brindle with white, with black color shading on the face and ears only. Their eyes are brown and can sometimes be icy blue.
A St. Bernard giant dog weighs around 65-120 kg (140-260 lbs.) and a height of 70-90 cm (28-35 in).
8.The Irish wolfhound
The Irish Wolfhound are an introvert breed, intelligent but have a reserved character. They rarely make a commotion in the household. The have a very strong bond with their family can be destructive if left alone for a long time.
Wolfhounds have coat colors of grey, red, brindle, white, wheaten or fawn. The males weigh minimum of 48 kg (105 lbs.) and female minimum weight is 54 kg (10 lbs.). The minimum height of female Wolfhound is 76 cm (30 in) and males are 1 cm (32 in).
9.Russian black terrier
The Black Russian Terrier or BRT is not actually a true terrier. Their breed was created using seventeen dog breeds in USSR in the late 1940s and the early 1950s. They are calm, courageous, confident and self-assured dogs. They have deep loyalty to their family and are aloof to strangers. BRTs have a double coat that has coarse outer guard hair over the undercoat that is soft. The coat color is usually black or black with gray hairs scattered all over the coat.
Male BRT weighs 50-60 kg (99-110 lbs.) and has a height of 72-76 cm (28-30 in). The female BRT weighs 45-50 kg (99-110 lbs.) and the height is 68-72 cm (27-28 in).
10.Great Dane
The Great Dane is a friendly dog that seeks physical affection from their human family. They are extremely gentle and loving and are usually raised together with children.
The Great Dane has a life expectancy of 8-10 years, and their coat colors are fawn and brindle, harlequin and black, mantle and blue.
Males weigh 50-82 kg (110-180 lbs.) and females weigh 50-82 kg (110-180 lbs.). Male height is 76-79 cm (30-31 in), and females height is 71-76 cm (28-30 in).
11.Leonberger
Leonbergers are sociable dogs and very good with family. They have water-resistant double coat with color combination of lion-yellow, red-brown, red and sand.
Male weighs 4-77 kg (120-170 lbs.) with a height of 71-80 cm (28-31 in). Females weigh 45-61 kg (100-135 lbs.) with a height of 65-75 cm (26-30 in).
12.Tosa Inu
TosaInu or Tosa, Tosa-Ken or Japanese Mastiff is of Japanese origin that weighs 36-61 kg (80-135 lbs.) and with a height of 62-82 cm (24-32 in). Their coat is smooth and short, with colors of red, fawn or brindle.
13.Bernese mountain dog
The Bernese mountain dogs are well-behaved in the house but they need constant outdoor activities. They have a life span of 7-8 years and can produce 5-15 puppies. They have a tri-colored double coat.
The males weigh 35-55 kg (80-120 lbs.) with height of 61-71 cm (24-28 in). The females weigh 30-50 kg (70-110 lbs.) and a height of 58-66 cm (23-26 in).
14.Boerboel
The Boerboel is also known as the South African Mastiff. They need to be trained and positively encourage because they tend to be destructive if left isolated. Their coat is short, dense, smooth, soft and shiny with colors with and without black mask, fawns, browns, reds, brindle, piebald, and Irish markings.
Males weigh 65-80 kg (143-176 lbs.), and females weigh 50-65 kg (110-143 lbs.). Their height is 60-70 cm (24-28 in).
15.Anatolian shepherd
Anatolian shepherd are independent dogs that may not obey if not trained to socialize. They have short, rough coat with colors fawn and brindle. They can have 5-10 puppies and they have a lifespan of 13-15 years.
Males weigh 50-65 kg (110-143 lbs.) with height of 74-81 cm (29-32 in). Females weigh 40-55 kg (88-121 lbs.), with height of 71-79 cm (28-31 in).
16.Tibetan mastiff
The Tibetan mastiff s a flock guarding dog which is not recommended for apartment living. They have a double coat with colors of solid black, black and tan, shades of red and bluish-gray.
They weigh 55-90 kg (121-198 lbs.) and their height is 83 cm (33 in).
17.Dogo Argentino
DogoArgentino are big-game hunters, trained for search and rescue, service dogs, police assistance, competitive obedience, guide for the blind, Schutzhund and military work. Their life span is 10-12 years. They have short coat with white color.
Males weigh 40-45 kg (88-99 lbs.), height is 60-68 cm (24-27 in). Females weigh 40-43 kg (88-95 lbs.), height s 60-65 cm (24-26 in).
18.Greater Swiss mountain
Greater Swiss mountain dogs are enthusiastically happy and have strong affinity to people and kids. They have short, double coat with a tricolor. They can have up to 18 puppies and can live up to 11 years.
Male weigh 60-70 kg (132.3-154.3 lbs.), height of 65-72 cm (25.5-28.5 in). Females weigh 50-60 kg (110.2-132.3 lbs.), height of 60-69 cm (23.5-27 in).
19.Bully kutta
Bully Kuta or Pakistani Mastiff or Indian Mastiff is from Punjab and Sindh, India. They can have 6-8 puppies and can live for 8-10 years. They have short, straight, fine and smooth coat with colors of brindle, white, brown, tan, black, and piebald.
Males weigh 70-90kg and females at 60-70 kg. Male height is 76-86 cm and female is 75-80 cm.
20.Dogue de Bordeaux
Dogue de Bordeaux or Bordeau Mastiff, or French Mastiff or Bordeauxdog are very powerful and muscular dogs. They have fine, short and soft coat with all shades of fawn, and limited white patches on the chest and limbs.
Males weigh 68 kg (150 lbs.), females weigh 57 kg (125 lbs.). Height is 61-69 cm (24-27 in) for males, 58-66 cm (23-2 in) for female.
21.Kangal
The Kangal dogs are calm, independent, controlled, protective and powerful. They are aloof to strangers though but can socialize. Their coat is not broken, spotted or brindled, and their ears are intentionally cropped, and they have black facial mask, black or shaded ears.
Male Kangals weigh 50-83 kg (110-183 lbs.) with a height of 77-86 cm (30-34 in). Female Kangals weigh 50-84 kg (110-185 lbs.) with a height of 30-34 inches.
22.Landseer
The Landseer Newfoundland dogs are sweet, gentle and have a serene character. The like swimming and they drool. They have colors of white with black patches, white around the nose, white tail with little black.
Male Landseer weighs 65-80 kg (143-176 lbs.) and the height is 72-80 cm (28-31 in). The female Landseer weighs 50-70 kg (110-150 lbs.) and height is 67-72 cm (26-28 in).
23.Akbash
The Akbask dogs are calm and aware, not shy and not aggressive. They can think independently and can be powerful against any predators but can be very gentle with newborn lambs and goat kids. They have medium or long double coat and their color is white. They can produce 8 puppies and life span is 11 years.
Male Akbash weighs 41-64 kg (90-140 lbs.), has a height of 71-81 cm (28-32 in). The females weigh 34-48 kg (75-105 lbs.) and height is 69-76 cm (27-30 in).
24.Cane Corso
The Cane Corso originates from Italy and is a relative of the Neapolitan Mastiff Giant dog. They have great muscles and they have two main colors, the black and the fawn. Their life span is 9.29 years.
Male Cane Corso weighs 45-50 kg (99-110 lbs.), and females weigh 40-45 kg (88-99 lbs.) Their height is 62-70 cm (24-28 in) for males, and 58-66 cm (23-26 in) for females.
24.Kuvasz
The Kuvasz dogs have a clownish, friendly personality. They are extremely loyal and patient, but at times aloof, independent and cunning with strangers. Their coat ranges from straight to wavy and they are white in color. They can have 6-8 puppies and can live for 10-12 years.
Males weigh 45-52 kg (99-115 lbs.), with height of 70-76 cm (28-30 in). Females weigh 32-41 kg (71-90 lbs.), and height is 65-70 cm (26-28 in).
